Ogdensburg – Prescott International Bridge border crossing
The Ogdensburg – Prescott border crossing is a 1.5-mile suspension bridge that spans over St. Lawrence River and connects Johnstown, Ontario to Ogdensburg, New York.
The border crossing has been around since 1800, with vessels crossing the river to either city. The bridge was built in 1960 to replace the ferry service. The US and Canadian border stations that were built to service the travelers using the bridge have since been replaced with more modern facilities.
While built to accommodate heavy loads such as semi-trailer trucks, commercial traffic makes up approximately 10% of the bridge’s traffic. Based on data gathered by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, 339,115 vehicles crossed this bridge in 2015. It is considered one of the 20 busiest land ports between US and Canada.
The Ogdensburg – Prescott International Bridge is managed by the Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority and charges a toll. Toll booths are located after the US border station. Travelers entering the US from Canada will need to undergo customs inspection first before heading to the toll booths.
