The Saint Leonard – Van Buren border crossing connects the towns of Van Buren, Maine and St. Leonard, New Brunswick across the Saint John River through an international bridge, the Saint Leonard – Van Buren Bridge. It is one of the top 25 busiest border crossings between US and Canada. Approximately 500 vehicles pass through each day.

Prior to the bridge’s construction in 1911, a hand-pulled cable ferry was used to link the two communities. In 1972, the original bridge was replaced. In 2008, the US border station was damaged due to a flooding of the St. John River. A doublewide mobile trailer served as the CBP border station until a state-of-the-art facility was built in 2013 that greatly increased its capacity of handling commercial and passenger vehicles passing through.
