Yankton, SD Community Work Center View
The Yankton Community Work Center is a minimum-security male facility under the direction of the Mike Durfee State Prison and Warden Brent Fluke. It opened in the early 1970's to provide support services for the Human Services Center and it has grown over the years to a working unit with a population of 150 to 240 adult inmates. The unit supplies workers for several different programs. On a daily basis, inmates work in support services for the Human Services Center, are assigned to Community Service Projects or are on Work Release status, meaning they hold jobs in the community. Parolees in the Community Transition Program are also housed there. The center provides GED classes and elective classes for education, a wide range of recreational activities, and a variety of religious services. The center also provides a treatment unit with drug and alcohol treatment classes, both long term and relapse..
