East Hartford Probate Court provides access to probate case filings, scheduling and conducting hearings, and issuing orders and decrees. It handles: decedents' estates (probate of wills, intestate administration, creditor claims, fiduciary appointments, accountings); trust matters; adult conservatorships (person/estate; temporary/emergency); guardianship of adults with intellectual disability; guardianship of minors (appointments, removals, temporary guardians); adoptions and termination of parental rights; legal name changes; involuntary psychiatric or substance-use commitments and related treatment/placement orders; approval of minor or estate settlements; and authorization to sell or manage estate/trust property. The court appoints and oversees fiduciaries, maintains records, provides forms and procedural information, and issues certified copies. Domestic-violence restraining/protective orders and criminal protective orders are handled by Superior Court; the Probate Court may issue emergency orders within its cases. No jury services-matters are heard by a probate judge.
