Rapid City, SD Community Work Center View
Rapid City Minimum Unit is a minimum security prison that is run as a satellite facility to Mike Durfee State Prison. This facility houses adult males and provides all offenders with mental health, medical, and dental treatment. Additionally, some inmates at the Rapid City Minimum Unit will qualify for the work release program. The work release program allows the inmate to leave the facility during the day to work a job in the surrounding community, and to return to the prison at the end of their shit. Work release plays a vital role in preparing the inmate for discharge as it gives them a financial foundation and a higher level of responsibility. Additional supervised job opportunities are available to offenders and include firefighting, working with timber, and other community services.
