Montgomery, AL County Youth Facility View

The original juvenile detention operation was housed on the third floor of the old courthouse, which is now our County Administration Building and Courthouse Annex. It consisted of four detention rooms and a kitchen area. On September 24, 1969 the operation was moved into a new Montgomery County Youth Facility on this site. This facility was constructed by Bear Brothers Construction for $844,032 and had a detention capacity of 34. It was designed by the architectural firm of Pearson Humphries and Jones. Our requirements continue to grow and in 1989 the county commission initiated actions to renovate and expand the facility to meet community needs. Renovation and expansion of the 40,000 square foot Montgomery County Youth Facility began in July 1990. The expansion added 7,000 square feet of administrative space and 8,200 square feet for an additional detention wing, which increases detention capacity from 34 to 52. The cost of the construction was $3.7 million and was done by Hutcheson Construction. Seay, Seay & Litchfield Architects designed the project.
