Jackson County was established by the Missouri State Legislature on December 15, 1826. Named after the seventh American president, Andrew Jackson, the County, which is the 54th largest in Missouri, covers an area of 604.5 square miles, including most of Kansas City, Missouri, and 17 other cities.
