Montgomery County
Montgomery County encompasses 651 square miles in southeastern Kansas and is home to approximately 30,568 people. Its most populous city is Coffeyville, while its county seat is Independence. The entire county is included in the Coffeyville Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Within Montgomery County, the 14th Judicial District Court has courthouses in both Coffeyville and Independence. This court handles cases in numerous areas of the law, including probate, criminal, civil, guardianship, juvenile, domestic, and small claims matters.
Montgomery Municipal Courts including those located in Cherryvale, Caney, Coffeyville, Elk, and Independence, preside over city ordinance violations that occur within city limits. These courts hear all traffic cases and minor offenses that are punishable by fine or probation. Unlike the District Court, jury trials are not held in Montgomery Municipal Courts.

Unless sealed or deemed confidential by Supreme Court rules, statutes, case law, or court orders, these records are accessible to the public upon request.
