Labette County
Once home to the Osage Indians' Reservation, Labette County is located in southern Kansas and was founded in February 1867. It was named for the second largest creek in the county - Labette Creek and its county seat is the City of Oswego. Labette County covers 645.4 square miles of land area and is home to over 20,000 people.
There are six municipal courts and two district courts in Labette County. These eight courts make up the court system in the county. Municipal courts have limited jurisdiction and typically hear cases relating to city ordinance violations, such as traffic violations and minor criminal offenses. No jury trials are held at Labette County municipal courts.
