Caroline Correctional Unit is a field unit located in Hanover Virginia. It houses an average of approximately 140 male inmates with an age range of 18 to 64. Caroline Correctional Unit is a minimum security facility that only houses inmates who have had no escape history and no behavioral issues for the past two years. Additionally, inmates are only eligible to be at this facility if they are not incarcerated for murder, kidnapping/abducting, or a sex offense. The Caroline Correctional Unit provides all inmates with a counselor, mental health and medical services. Caroline Correctional Unit houses inmates in two open dormitories, A dorm and B dorm. Offenders can also be housed in segregation if their are security or safety issues. Inmates are secured by a perimeter fence, and over 59 cameras that monitor the facility 24/7. Eligible offenders can work in the facilities agribusiness which is comprised of a farm and greenhouse. Inmates can also work jobs such as the highway labor program, and internal jobs performing kitchen work, custodial maintenance, in the facilities library, barber shop, and recreation programs. Educational courses provided include a GED program, a book program and computer training.
