Sioux Falls, SD Jameson Annex View
The G. Norton Jameson Annex opened in February 1993, as a secure unit adjacent to the main building of the South Dakota State Penitentiary. The Jameson Annex contains three housing units within a secure perimeter, Unit A, Unit B and Unit D. These units are utilized for maximum custody inmates and as a disciplinary segregation unit. Also located in the Jameson Annex are the Admissions and Orientation Unit for new inmates entering the South Dakota Department of Corrections and the Mental Health Unit. There is a Community Work Center located outside the perimeter fence of the Jameson Annex for minimum-security inmates on work release and community service status and for parolees in the Community Transition Program. That unit also opened in February 1993. Inmates housed in the Jameson Annex are offered literacy, ABE and GED classes. The Annex is named for G. Norton Jameson, who served as Warden of the Penitentiary from 1938 to 1963..
