Rogers County
Rogers County is located in the center of the Cherokee Nation in the northeastern region of Oklahoma. It was established in January 1907 and was named for a prominent Cherokee rancher - Clem Vann Rogers. Rogers County covers 675.7 square miles of land area and is home to over 95,000 people.
Seven municipal courts and one district court make up the trial court system in the county. Municipal courts handle criminal and traffic cases based on municipal ordinance violations. Some municipal courts in the county are "of record", while others are "not of record." Municipal courts of record handle most violations of parking, criminal, traffic, and environmental ordinances. Municipal courts not of record are restricted to handling municipal ordinance violations. Note that the appeals from municipal courts not of record are heard by the district court and appeals from municipal courts of record are determined in the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals.
The district court in the county has general jurisdiction over all criminal and civil cases. The court has a small claims division to handle civil claims not worth more than $10,000. The court has specialized programs for specific cases, such as business court, mental health court, and drug court.
