Pittsburg County
Formed from part of the Choctaw Nation in 1907, Pittsburg County is home to a relatively small population of 43,479. It stretches a total area of 1,378 square miles in the southeastern part of Oklahoma, and its county seat is McAlester. Due to its significant coal production, the county was named after Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
