Nowata County
Established in 1907, Nowata County is a northeastern Oklahoma county that is home to over 9,400 residents. Its name is believed to have been derived from either the Delaware word âno-we-ta,â meaning âcome hereâ or âwelcome,â or a sign posted during the region's early days indicating that local springs had no water â âNo wata.â
Nowata County's trial court system comprises District and Municipal Courts. The District Court is the county's primary trial court and handles a wide range of civil and criminal matters. These include felony and misdemeanor cases, personal injury lawsuits, breach of contract cases, small claims cases, adoptions, divorce proceedings, child support, juvenile delinquency cases, and probate matters. On the other hand, the Municipal Courts, which are sometimes called City Courts, are limited jurisdiction courts that deal with traffic, non-traffic, and parking violations of local ordinances in their respective cities. Decisions in these courts can be appealed to the District Court.
Public court records in Nowata County are official documents that contain information on legal proceedings in the county. They include court filings, trial dispositions, subpoenas, case files, judgments, orders, transcripts, and legal motions.
