Le Flore County
Le Flore County was organized in 1907 and is located along the eastern border of the State of Oklahoma. It has an estimated population of 48,525 and a land area of about 1,589.4 square miles. The county seat is the City of Poteau.
The Le Flore County Court system includes both a District Court and Municipal Courts. The Le Flore County District Court is in the 16th Judicial District of Oklahoma. It has jurisdiction over civil, criminal, domestic relations, juvenile, mental health, and probate cases. There is a Small Claims Division where individuals can quickly present disputes to a judge for less than $10,000. Common small claims cases involve unpaid bills, contract disputes, and landlord and tenant problems. The Treatment Court program, as outlined in the Anna McBride Act, includes the Mental Health Court, which is situated within the county. The District Court hears appeals from the Municipal Courts and administrative agencies. The Municipal Courts are responsible for addressing traffic infractions and ordinance violations in certain cities.
