Choctaw County
Choctaw County is located in the Southeastern region of Oklahoma and formerly part of Choctaw Nation in Indian Territory. It was founded and reorganized in 1907. Choctaw County has a land area of 800 square miles with a population of 14,204. Its seat is the City of Hugo.
The Choctaw County 17th District Court has authority over civil and criminal cases. They also perform trials and hearings over cases beyond the jurisdiction of other courts. Futhermore, they have specialized divisions such as Business Court, Drug Court, and Mental Health Court, where they preside over nonviolent criminal offenses.
Municipal Courts in Choctaw County operate at city and township levels. They resolve issues pertaining to municipal ordinance violations and misdemeanor offenses. Municipal Courts are divided into âof recordâ and âof no record'. According to the Oklahoma Law, Municipal Courts âof no recordâ are established in cities with populations under 200,000.
