Medina County
Located in north central Ohio, Medina County, Medina County spans about 425 square miles area and has an estimated population of 182,470. While the county was formed in 1812, it was not incorporated until 1818.
Medina County's court system includes two Common Pleas Courts, a Probate and Juvenile Court, and a Domestic Relations Court. The Common Pleas Courts consist of Court 3A and Court 3B. Generally, the Medina County Common Pleas Court is a court of general jurisdiction, hearing civil and criminal cases. Its responsibilities include resolving disputes, dispensing justice, and protecting the constitutional rights of persons who come before the court.
The Probate and Juvenile Court in Medina County handles issues relating to probate and juvenile cases. The Probate Division of the court hears cases involving adoptions, decedents' state distribution, and guardianship. On the other hand, the Juvenile Division handles law actions relating to juvenile misdemeanor offenses, traffic offenses, unruly behavior, and juvenile probation. Medina County's Domestic Relations Court is largely responsible for cases involving legal separation, divorce, annulments, parentage matters, dissolution, child and spousal support, dating violence civil protection, and domestic violence civil protection. The county's judicial system also has an Adult Probation Department.
