Hamilton County

Hamilton County is the third-most populous county in Ohio with a population of 830,639. Named after Alexander Hamilton in 1790, its largest city and county seat is the City of Cincinnati. The county is bordered by the Ohio, Great Miami, and Little Miami Rivers.

The Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas is a trial court with general jurisdiction over all civil and criminal cases within the county. The General Division of the Court of Common Pleas handles all criminal felony cases and all civil actions in which the amount in dispute is more than $5,000. All proceedings involving annulment, domestic violence, spousal support, and legal separation are handled by the Domestic Relations Division.

The Hamilton County Juvenile Court decides cases in which children are the legal subjects of complaints. These can include juvenile delinquency cases arising from crimes committed by minors or dependency cases due to the abuse or neglect of a child. In addition to probating wills, the Probate Court has jurisdiction over estate matters, adoption proceedings, the issuance of marriage licenses, name changes, guardianships, and the determination of sanity and mental competency.

The Hamilton County Municipal Court holds hearings for small claims up to $6,000, as well as traffic and non-traffic misdemeanors, and civil cases in which the amount in dispute does not exceed $15,000. This court may also conduct preliminary hearings in felony cases.

All legal documents filed with the county's courts are handled, managed, and retained by the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. Furthermore, you can conduct a record search directly on the clerk's website by providing a name, ticket number, attorney number, or case number.
