Cass County
Cass County is located in the eastern part of North Dakota with a population of 184,525. It is the most populous county in the state making up 25% of North Dakota's population. Cass County was formed in 1873 and named after George Washington Cass, a former president of the Northern Pacific Railway. It occupies an area measuring 1,768 square miles and has its county seat at Fargo.
The District Court in Cass County has general jurisdiction over civil, criminal, and mental health matters. It has a small claims court division handling civil matters in which the amount of money involved in dispute is less than $5,000. It also has a juvenile court division attending to matters involving juvenile delinquency and adoption.
There are six Municipal Courts in Cass County. These Municipal Courts serve different cities and hear cases related to city ordinance and driving violations.
