Monroe County
Monroe County was established by the Mississippi Legislature in 1821. It is named in honor of the fifth U.S. President, James Monroe. Its county seat, the City of Aberdeen, was an important center for cotton farming in the past and was also home to one of the busiest ports in the state. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the county's total population is 34,180.
