Taney County
Taney County occupies a land area of approximately 632 square miles in southwestern Missouri. It was established in 1837 and named after Roger Brooke Taney, the fifth Chief Justice of the United States. There are 56,202 persons residing in Taney County as of 2022. Popular cities in the county include Branson and Forsyth, which serves as its government seat.
Taney County has two trial courts: the Circuit and Municipal Courts. The Circuit Court in Taney County, which is Missouri's 46th Judicial Circuit, has general jurisdiction over all criminal and civil cases. It hears all felony and civil claims for more than $25,000. The Circuit Court's Associate Circuit Division typically resolves civil lawsuits involving up to $25,000 in financial settlement and unlawful detainer cases. Associate Circuit judges in Taney County can also decide misdemeanors and other minor criminal proceedings.
