Laclede County

Laclede County was created on February 24, 1849, and named for Pierre Laclede Liguest, a French fur trader. It spans 768 square miles and has its county seat as Lebanon (also the largest city). A population of over 36,680 people calls it home as of 2023.

The judges in the Circuit Court and Municipal Courts operate the justice system in Laclede County. The Municipal Courts have limited jurisdiction. They handle traffic violations, code infractions, and other ordinance violation matters. The Circuit Court is vested with the responsibility of settling most cases in the county. It prosecutes felony cases and handles legal separation, guardianship, personal injury, and juvenile (dependency and delinquency) cases.

Court records specify how orders and judgments took place during a case. They include the arguments, subpoenas, summonses, and trials that occurred in connection/correlation to cases. The Circuit Court Clerk is responsible for overseeing the process of preserving and maintaining court records. Record keeping has moved from the old traditional ways of using paper formats to preserve records. Rather, new technology has been embraced. The electronic means of viewing court records serves as a standardized method of obtaining records.

Some court records are available upon request by the public. They are public because they are not sealed by law or court order. Below are the types of court records that the general public has access to:

  • Civil Court Records
  • Probate Court Records
  • Family Court Records
  • Criminal Court Records
  • Traffic Court Records
