Clay County
Clay County was created and named after Henry Clay on January 2, 1822. Located in Missouri and also part of the Kansas City metropolitan area, the county covers a total area of 409 square miles. Clay County owns and operates the Midwest National Air Center in Excelsior Springs.
Clay County residents are served by a circuit court and municipal courts located within the county. As a court of general jurisdiction, the 7th Judicial Circuit Court handles all criminal and civil cases through its nine divisions. Each division handles a case type within the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court. Cases involving will and trust, determination of heirs, estate of deceased persons, and guardianship are under the statutory authority of the Probate Division.
The primary objective of the Juvenile Division is to protect children in need of treatment and care. Also, this division handles cases of juvenile delinquency and truancy. The Small Claims Division has the authority to settle disputes involving claims of $5,000 or less, with or without attorneys.
As courts of limited jurisdiction, Clay County municipal courts or municipal divisions handle cases involving traffic violations, injunctions against harassment, criminal misdemeanors, and violation of sanitation, fire, and property maintenance codes within the cities and villages they serve.
The Clerk of Circuit Court is responsible for the maintenance and safekeeping of court records created in the county. Certain court records are considered accessible to the public, regardless of whether they contain confidential information or not. It is the responsibility of persons filing cases to redact confidential information in public court records.
In order to facilitate public access to non-confidential records and docket entries, the Missouri judicial branch provided the CaseNet search portal as an access point to their automated case management system. By providing a litigant name, filing date, or case number, and selecting the 7th Judicial Circuit Court from the drop-down menu, you can view the following categories of Clay County court records:
