Pottawatomie County
Pottawatomie County was established by the Kansas Territorial legislature in 1875 and named for the Pottawatomie tribe. The county has a land area of approximately 841 square miles and an estimated resident population of 26,382.
Pottawatomie County's trial court system, which falls under Kansas's 2nd Judicial District, consists of District and Municipal Courts. The District Court is the county's main trial court and has original jurisdiction over all civil and criminal matters. These include felony hearings, misdemeanors, contract disputes, damage suits, small claims cases, divorce and domestic relations, juvenile matters, probate and administration of estates, guardianships, conservatorships, and care of the mentally ill. The Municipal Courts (also called City Courts) handle violations of city/municipal ordinances committed within their specific localities.

Some examples of these records are court filings, court orders, summonses, subpoenas, motions, sworn affidavits, trial dispositions, transcripts, sentencing, agreement settlements, judgments, and verdicts. The Pottawatomie Clerk of the District Court is the record custodian for these records and is responsible for ensuring that they are properly maintained and accessible to interested members of the public.
