Monroe County
Monroe County was formed from Orange County in 1818 and named after James Monroe, the fifth President of the U.S. According to data recorded in the 2020 U.S. Census, its total population was 139,718, and its land area measures 394.51 square miles. The county seat is Bloomington City.
The Monroe County Circuit Court is the sole court in the county. As a unified court, its jurisdiction extends to every category of case within the county.
