Denver County

Denver County has 153 square miles of land area and a population of 715,522 according to the 2020 decennial census. It is a consolidated county and city, Colorado's capital, and the most populous metropolitan statistical area.

Denver County runs a court system that is different from the Colorado judicial system. In place of a combined court, Denver County has four separate courts that each have independent jurisdictions. Statutorily, the District Court handles civil, criminal, and domestic relation cases filed within the county. The court also issues protection orders when conflict arises between parties involved in a divorce proceeding.

The criminal division of the County Court adjudicates traffic violations, petty offenses, misdemeanors, and the violations of municipal ordinances. On the other hand, the civil division handles replevins, name changes, evictions, and civil suits in which the amount in dispute does not exceed $25,000.

The Probate Court hears all probate matters and cases involving mentally ill persons and appoints guardians or conservators for incapacitated persons or minors. The Juvenile Court handles matters related to expungement, grandparent visitation, truancy, child support, paternity, adoption, and delinquency.

Denver County public court records are in the safekeeping of the clerks of various courts who have the responsibility of providing access when requested. By providing a valid case number, any member of the public can look up these cases in the following records on the Denver County Public Portal:

  • Traffic records
  • Misdemeanor records
  • Felony records
  • Civil records
  • Domestic relations records
  • Small claims records

If you do not have a case number, you may search for public court records on the websites of approved commercial service contractors by providing a person or business name. It is worth noting that these commercial sites cannot provide copies of court records. To obtain copies of county court records, complete and submit a Copy Request form. District court records are obtainable by submitting the Record Request Form through email.
