Adams County
Adams County was founded on April 15, 1901 and named after Alva Adams, a former Governor of Colorado. It has a population of 519,572 people. Adams County has its county seat in Brighton while Thornton is its largest city.
The Adams county trial court system consists of a District Court, County Court and multiple Municipal Courts. The Adams County District Court has general jurisdiction over civil, probate, juvenile, domestic relation, and criminal matters as well as mental health cases. It is the highest trial court in Adams County and its decisions are sometimes appealed to the Colorado Court of Appeals or the state’s Supreme Court.
