Ventura County

Ventura County has a rich cultural history that began over 10,000 years ago with the settlement of the Chumash people. It was occupied by the Spanish in the 16th century up to 1873, when it was established under the California state. Ventura currently has a population of 843,843, covering 458 square miles. Its main employers are agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, leisure activities, and public administration.

The court system in Ventura County comprises the Superior Courts of California. These courts preside over civil, criminal, family, probate, and juvenile cases. The Ventura Superior Court is the 14th largest judicial system within the state and is served by 32 judicial officers. These individuals are situated over three locations: the Ventura Courthouse, on 800 South Victoria Avenue, Superior Courts at East County 3855-F Alamo Street, and the Juvenile Courthouse at 4353 Vineyard Avenue.

Ventura County court records are files obtained following proceedings, including testimonials, summons, decrees, pleas, exhibits, judgments, and evidence. The court records are considered a matter of public record. These documents can be sourced from the records clerk at the courthouses. It is also possible to utilize the public access terminals for free. Requesters asking the clerk to search for records would attract $15 per query. An additional $25 is required for certified document copies. Particular records like civil, criminal, and family cases can be found at the 800 South Victoria Avenue Ventura Courthouse. Small claims cases may be found at the East County Courthouse, while juvenile cases or guardianship hearings are available at the Juvenile Courthouse at 4353 Vineyard Avenue.

The records clerk at the courthouse provides public access to the following types of cases:

  • Civil cases
  • Criminal cases
  • Family cases
  • Small Claims cases
  • Probate cases
  • Traffic cases

Interested parties may access case documentation by visiting the Superior Court Case inquiry link. Family law, probate, and guardianship cases are not available online. Requesters may view the records of civil, small claims, and some criminal or traffic cases. Any cases not available in the system may be obtained via the Records Department by emailing requests to the RecordsCorrespondence@ventura.courts.ca.gov email. There is a fee of $15 for each request and a maximum of 15 name searches per request.
