Sweetwater County
Sweetwater County, located in southwestern Wyoming, was founded in 1867 and named after the Sweetwater River. The administrative center is Green River. It spans 10,427.0 square miles of land, making it the largest county in Wyoming by total area. Sweetwater County is home to over 42,272 residents.
The court system in Sweetwater County consists of a District Court, two Circuit Courts, and five Municipal Courts. The Sweetwater District Court is a trial court with general jurisdiction over most civil and criminal cases. This includes juvenile cases, felony criminal cases, probate matters, and civil cases where the amount in dispute exceeds $50,000. The District Court also hears appeals from lower courts. The Circuit Courts in Sweetwater County have limited jurisdiction over certain types of criminal and civil cases, including sexual assault protection orders, forcible entry and detainer cases, and family violence matters.
