Campbell County

Campbell County is located in the northeastern region of Wyoming, often referred to as the "Energy Capital of the Nation" due to its abundant natural resources, including coal, oil, and natural gas. It was established in 1911, spanning approximately 4,802.1 square miles, with a population of about 46,857 residents. Gillette, the largest city, serves as the county seat and the central hub for economic and governmental activities.

The Campbell County judicial system is part of Wyoming's Unified Court structure and comprises the District Court which operates within Wyoming's 6th Judicial District and the Circuit Court. The District Court handles felony criminal cases, civil cases involving claims over $50,000, and domestic relations matters such as divorce and custody and cases requesting injunctive relief. It also manages probate cases, including estates, guardianships, and conservatorships as well as juvenile matters, including delinquency and child protection cases. The Circuit Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanors, traffic violations, and civil cases involving claims up to $50,000. It conducts preliminary hearings for felony cases and handles small claims cases, enforcement of liens on land, recovery of money, claims for the recovery of personal property, foreclosures, and landlord-tenant disputes. On the other hand, the Municipal Court is responsible for cases involving violations of city ordinances, including traffic infractions and certain misdemeanors.
