Walworth County
Walworth County was established in 1838 after Chancellor Ruben Walworth of New York. He was a lawyer, politician, and jurist nominated to the United States Supreme Court three times. The County sheriff's office in the county was set up in 1839, nine years before Wisconsin became a state. Walworth County currently has a population of 105,380, covering an area of 555.94 square miles. The main economic activity in Walworth County is family-owned farms and food processors.
The County Circuit Court is one of 72 circuit courts in Wisconsin and is within the 2nd judicial district. Walworth's County court system entails both Circuit and Municipal Courts. The county is home to one County Circuit Court and 15 Municipal Courts. Circuit court judges in the county hear both criminal and civil cases, as well as appeals of decisions from the juvenile courts. Municipal courts, though, preside over traffic cases and petty offenses or misdemeanor criminal cases.
Court records are official documents that are generated or submitted in proceedings. These are pleas, witness testimonies, opening statements, minutes, evidence, appeals, and judgments. Unless they are sealed by the courts or deemed confidential by legal proceedings, circuit court files are open to inspection by all interested parties. Juvenile, family, or mental health-related cases may be considered confidential. In Walworth County, court records are maintained and stored by the clerk of the circuit court, located at 1800 County Trunk NN.
The Walworth Clerk of the Court can provide access to the following types of court records:
- Civil Cases
- Criminal Cases
