Oneida County
Oneida County was established in 1887 and named after the Oneida people, a Native American tribe. The county has a land area of 1,113.9 square miles and a population of over 37,000 residents. Its government seat and largest city is Rhinelander.
The Oneida County trial court system consists of a single court, the Oneida County Circuit Court. The court has jurisdiction over a wide range of civil and criminal cases, such as personal injury claims, small claims, contractual disputes, misdemeanors, and felonies. The court also handles cases on wills, guardianships, administration of estates, and other probate matters. Juvenile and family matters like delinquency, abuse and neglect, domestic violence, support and visitation, and paternity are also within the authority of the Circuit Court. Proceedings of the Circuit Court are held at the county's courthouse in Rhinelander.
Information concerning the legal proceedings of the Circuit Court is recorded in several official documents, such as case dockets, petitions, pleadings, case indexes, orders, and judgments. These documents are maintained by the county's Clerk of Courts and collectively referred to as Oneida County public court records.
