Manitowoc County
Manitowoc County is a county in eastern Wisconsin. Its formation in 1836 was prior to Wisconsin's statehood. However, its organization was in 1848. Manitowoc County has a land area of 589.3 square miles and is home to over 80,000 people.
Five municipal courts and a circuit court make up the trial court system in Manitowoc County. Most of the cases heard in the municipal court involve parking, traffic, trespass, health code violations, animal control violations, building code violations, disorderly conduct, and ordinance matters, including first-time DUI offenses. Juvenile cases, such as underage drinking, truancy, drug offenses, and curfew violations are also heard in the municipal court.
The circuit court in the county is a state trial court with original jurisdiction over all civil and criminal matters, including juvenile, probate, and traffic matters. Civil and criminal jury trials are held in the circuit court.
