The Isle of Wight County 5th Judicial General District Court handles preliminary hearings for felonies, traffic violations, felonies, and municipal code violations. It has exclusive jurisdiction over civil matters with claims under $4,500 and shares jurisdiction with the Circuit Court over civil cases for any claims between $4,500 and $25,000. Most cases concerning domestic relations, any juvenile hearings as well as select criminal hearings that include child or family harm fall under the jurisdiction of the Isle of Wight County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
