San Juan County
Located in the southeastern part of Utah, San Juan County was founded in 1880, and it spans an area of about 7,823 square miles. The county is the first largest in the state by total area. Over 14,000 call San Juan County home.
The San Juan County Court system is made up of the Justice Court and the District Court. The county's Justice Court has jurisdiction over cases involving violation of ordinances, Class B and Class C misdemeanors, small claims, and infractions. The District Court is a general jurisdiction court and it presides over matters related to probate court. It also handles all lawsuits relating to criminal felonies, Class A misdemeanor cases, civil cases, and traffic violations. Furthermore, the District Court hears appeals of small claims cases from the county Justice Court.
Records of court proceedings from San Juan County are public records unless exempted from disclosure for confidentiality reasons. Interested members of the public can view them and/or obtain copies.
