Tarrant County

Tarrant County was organized in 1849 out of the Peters Colony. The County was initially named after General Edward Tarrant, the commander of militia forces for the Republic of Texas. Situated in the mid-northern part of the state, Tarrant has a current population of 2.155 million, and it covers 902 square miles.

Tarrant County is under the Northern District of Texas. The county has 24 judicial districts, five criminal district courts, one constitutional county court, 15 county courts at law, 35 municipal courts, and three statutory probate courts. Its main judicial districts, criminal district courts, and county courts preside over significant criminal, civil, or family law cases. The statutory probate and constitutional county court deals with all guardianship and misdemeanor cases. Municipal courts typically deal with small claims disputes and traffic cases.

Court records are documents submitted or generated by the courts in compliance with orders. They include pleas, orders, motions transcripts, witness testimonies, jury verdicts, appeals, and judgments. In Texas, judicial documents are open to public viewing unless a disclosure exemption exists. The records should be available upon request if a respondent does not raise an exemption. District court records are stored and maintained by the County District Clerk. The county court records are sourced from the County Clerk's office. Searches at the District Clerk's office would attract a fee of $5. There is an additional 50-cent fee per page for the noncertified copies and $1 for certified pages. The county Clerk's office also charges per page for court record copies. These requests are to be made in person or via mail.

The county and district court clerks offer access to the following types of cases.

  • Criminal Cases
  • Civil Cases
  • Small Claims Cases
  • Probate Cases
  • Traffic Cases

Interested parties may also view court records via the Odyssey Tarrant County portal. Requesters can select according to court and the case type before providing the party information. Alternatively, residents may utilize the TAMES Case search platform.
