Kleberg County
Kleberg County, located in southern Texas, was formed in 1913 and was named after early settler Robert J. Kleberg. It covers a total area of 1,090 square miles, of which 19% is water. The population, as reported by the 2023 Population Estimate Program, stands at 30,069.
The 105th District Court is the primary trial court in Kleberg County with the authority to handle several types of cases, including felonies, divorces, title-to-land disputes, misdemeanors involving official misconduct, contested elections, defamation, and escheat. The County Court at Law is established by acts of the Texas Legislature and is also known as the statutory court. It hears misdemeanor cases, probate, family law cases, guardianship matters, and appeals from Municipal and Justice Courts.
The Kleberg County Justice of the Peace Courts have jurisdiction over suits involving foreclosure of mortgages, debt claims, forcible entry and detainer, evictions, and civil matters where the amount in controversy does not exceed $20,000. The Kingsville Municipal Court is the only municipal court in Kleberg County. Its primary responsibility is to determine cases involving Class C misdemeanors occurring within the city limits. This court also processes traffic violations, juvenile status offenses, and building code infractions.
