The District, Constitutional County, County Court at Law, Municipal Courts, and Justice Courts are the trial courts of Hunt County. The District Courts, by constitution, have jurisdiction over matters not placed in other trial courts. They preside over criminal felony and divorce cases. The Constitutional County Courts have appellate authority over cases decided in the Justice of Peace Courts and Municipal Courts. They also handle probate and Class A and B misdemeanors. The County Court at Law accepts guilty pleas and conducts jury trials as directed by the District Courts.

The Justices of the Peace Courts focus on minor civil matters and issue arrest/search warrants. In addition, they function as small claims courts and conduct preliminary hearings. The Municipal Courts hold locals accountable for ordinance violations and handle petty theft cases, shoplifting, and traffic offenses (speeding, hit-and-run, and reckless driving).

Court records are managed by two distinct offices in Hunt County: the County Clerk and District Court Clerk. These records include all legal papers, exhibits, and transcripts used in a case or as evidence. Once cases are filed, they are assigned a case number and then entered into a docketing system. Both physical and electronic formats of court records can be accessed by interested persons due to the systemic and proper storage of these records. Some records are public, however, and include probate, traffic (including accident reports and traffic tickets), small claims, civil, and criminal cases.

The Hunt County Tyler Odyssey Portal is accessed to view court records either from the Office of the County or District Court Clerks. The District and County Court Clerks can be contacted via mail and email if you do not want to explore the online method. The District and County Court Clerk's Office can be located at 2507 Lee St., 2nd Floor, Greenville, TX 75401, or email the District Court Clerk at dclerk@huntcounty.net. The District Court Clerk's Office operates from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the County Clerk opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes by 4:30 p.m.
