Grimes County
Grimes County was founded in 1846 from part of Montgomery County. It is home to about 29,442 people and covers approximately 787.5 square miles. The county seat is Anderson.
Grimes County's courts include District Courts, a County Court of Law, Justice Courts, and a Municipal Court. The District Courts have jurisdiction over felony, domestic relations, juvenile, and civil cases. The County Court at Law handles divorces and family matters such as parent-child relationships, adoptions, and terminations. It also hears misdemeanors, juvenile, probate, and mental health cases. In addition, the County Court of law has jurisdiction over civil cases where the amount in dispute is between $200 to $200,000. The Justice Courts primarily operate in three precincts conduct preliminary hearings and deal with misdemeanors, traffic infractions, small claims (less than $20,000), and ordinance violations. The Navasota Municipal Court addresses cases involving misdemeanors, traffic infractions, and ordinance violations.
