Gregg County

Gregg County, formed in 1873 and named after General John Gregg, had a population of 124,239 as of the 2020 census. It has 2.5 square miles of water and 276 square miles of land. Longview is the county's largest city and county seat.

The Gregg County court system comprises the following:

  • Gregg County Court at Law - hears misdemeanors, probate matters, and civil cases with claims between $500 and $100,000. There are two County Courts at Law in Gregg County: County Court at Law 1 and County Court at Law 2
  • Gregg County Justice of the Peace - Gregg County has a Justice of the Peace in each of the five Precincts. They have jurisdiction over Class C misdemeanors, landlord-tenant matters, and claims under $20,000
  • Gregg County municipal courts hear misdemeanors that cannot be penalized with jail time, such as municipal ordinance violations and traffic infractions. There are municipal courts in Clarksville, Gladewater, Kilgore, Lakeport, Longview, and White Oak
  • Gregg County District Courts - there are 3 District Courts in the county: 124th, 188th, and 307th District Courts. They handle cases beyond the jurisdiction of other courts in the county, including civil, domestic, probate, and criminal cases
