Gibson County
Gibson County was created in 1823 by the Tennessee General Assembly from the Chickasaw Indian Cession. It has an estimated population of 50,455 and a land area of about 602.7 square miles. The county seat is the City of Trenton.
The Gibson County courts consist of a Circuit Court, Chancery Courts, a General Session Court, a Juvenile Court, and Municipal Courts. The Circuit Court has jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases and appeals from the General Session, Juvenile, and Municipal Courts. It often shares jurisdiction with the Chancery and General Session Court over some civil and domestic relations cases. The Chancery Court handles divorces, adoptions, name changes, probate of wills, guardianship, and conservatorship. The General Session Court conducts preliminary hearings in felony cases and deals with domestic relations and civil cases in which the amount in contention is less than $25,000. The Juvenile Court addresses issues concerning juvenile delinquency, child abuse and neglect, custody, and minors alleged to be guilty. Municipal or City Courts, found in some cities, hear cases involving traffic infractions and ordinance violations.
Gibson County public court records include documents in paper or electronic form generated or filed in the court session. These include pleadings, motions, applications, requests, exhibits, briefs, and memoranda of Law. The Gibson County Circuit Court Clerk creates and maintains all court records and dockets except for the Chancery court. These records include:
