Greenville County
As of the 2020 census, there were 525,534 people in Greenville County, making it the most populated county in South Carolina. The county was founded in 1786 and named after General Nathanael Greene. Its land area is 785.93 square miles, and its county seat is Greenville.
The Greenville County court system comprises the following:
- The Greenville County Family Court - has exclusive jurisdiction over domestic disputes. It hears divorce, child custody, child support, paternity, alimony, termination of parental rights, adoption, and juvenile delinquency cases
- The Greenville County Magistrate Court - handles restraining orders, civil claims under $7,500, preliminary felony hearings, and landlord-tenant cases. The Magistrate courts in the county are located in the following cities/towns: Bond, Chick Springs, Fairview/Austin, Gantt, Greer, North Greenville, South Greenville, and West Greenville
- The Greenville County Probate Court - handles the admission of wills, the administration of estates and trusts, and the appointment of guardianship
- The Greenville County municipal court - hears traffic and municipal ordinance violations. It also handles some criminal cases. There are six municipal courts in Grenville County, namely Fountain Inn, Greenville, Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville, and Travelers Rest municipal courts
- The Greenville County Circuit Court - is the highest court in the county and hears cases beyond the jurisdiction of other courts. It hears criminal cases and civil cases without financial limits.
