Snyder County
Snyder County was founded in 1855 from part of Union and Northumberland counties. It is located in the central part of the state, with Middleburg serving as the county seat. The county has a total area of 328.8 square miles of land and ranks as the 63rd largest county in Pennsylvania by total area, with approximately 39,736 residents.
The court system consists of a Court of Common Pleas and two Magistrate District Courts. The Court of Common Pleas is a general jurisdiction trial court that handles both civil and criminal cases. Additionally, the court oversees child and spousal support issues, child custody disputes, juvenile delinquency, and dependency cases. Magisterial District Courts handle all traffic and non-traffic citations, as well as process criminal and private criminal complaints, including arraignments and preliminary hearings. They also oversee civil and landlord-tenant disputes up to a jurisdictional limit of $12,000. Magisterial District Judges also have the authority to issue search warrants.
Snyder County court records are created through official legal proceedings in the Court of Common Pleas and Magisterial District Courts. These records include documents such as case files, judgments, orders, motions, and transcripts. Court records are public and generally accessible for review or copying, with some exceptions and restrictions for certain sensitive cases, such as juvenile cases or sealed matters. Snyder County court records include the following:
