Clinton County
Clinton County was created in 1839 from parts of Lycoming and Centre Counties in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Its land area is about 889.6 square miles, and its estimated population is 37,780. The seat of government is situated in the City of Lock Haven.
Clinton County courts comprise a Court of Common Pleas and Magisterial District Courts. The Court of Common Pleas has jurisdiction over cases involving felony, juvenile, probate, mental health, and civil. It has an Orphans Court Division and a Domestic Relations Division that addresses domestic relations and child support matters. The court receives appeals from administrative agencies and Magistrate District Courts. The Magisterial District Courts, located in Lock Haven, Mill Hall, and Renovo, conduct preliminary hearings and set bail. It handles misdemeanors, traffic infractions, ordinance violations, and small claims cases in which the amount in contention is less than $12,000. The county has several Specialty Courts, including the Behavioral Health Court, Treatment Court, and Veterans Treatment Court.
