Lane County
Established in 1851 and located in central western Oregon, Lane County spans about 4,620 square miles and was named after the state's first territorial governor, Joseph Lane. An estimated 382,000 people live in this county, and Eugene is the seat of government.
Lane County's court system includes a Circuit Court and Justice Courts. The Lane County Circuit Court offers judicial services to residents and businesses within the county under several programs/divisions. The Commercial Court Program oversees commercial disputes that would be onerous to the normal court docket. Also, the Family Court Assistance Office of the county's Circuit Court assists self-represented litigants in custody, divorce, parenting time, and legal separation cases.
The Juvenile Court of the Lane County Circuit Court provides the services and care that best meet the needs of minors within the court's jurisdiction. It primarily handles delinquency and dependence matters. The Probate Division handles matters relating to estates, wills, trusts, conservatorships, and guardianships. On the other hand, Lane County Justice Courts preside over civil, traffic, county violations, small claims, and animal violation cases. The Justice Court is not a part of the Circuit Court in Lane County.
