Williams County

Williams County was established in 1820 and reorganized on February 2, 1824. Its county seat is Bryan, and it was named for David Williams, one of the captors of Andre John in the American Revolutionary War. Its total land area measures 423 square miles and has a population reaching over 30,000.

The county's justice system comprises three Courts of Common Pleas and a Municipal Court. The Common Pleas Court is divided into four separate divisions. The General and Domestic Relations Division, the Probate Division, and the Juvenile Division. The General Division handles professional malpractice cases, contract disputes, and felony cases such as theft, arson, and drug trafficking. The Domestic Relations Division handles family-related issues such as annulments, and dissolution of marriage, and issues civil protection orders. It also deals with the allocation of parental rights and responsibilities.

The Probate Division presides over the administration of decedent estates, adoptions, testamentary trusts, adult protective services, guardianship, and name change petitions. The Juvenile Court settles juvenile traffic, dependency, truancy, paternity establishment, and delinquency cases.

Court records are typically documents that are compiled during court proceedings regarding a particular case. The Clerk of Courts fulfills the responsibility of certifying and arranging court records in indexes. Records generated from the court are stored in both physical and electronic formats.

The types of records that are available for viewing at the courthouse or on public computer terminals include:

  • Probate Court Records
  • Juvenile Court Records
