Lorain County
Lorain County is located in northeastern Ohio, covering a total land area of about 493 square miles. It was created in 1822 from parts of Medina, Huron, and Cuyahoga counties. The county has an estimated population of 313,000 people.
The court structure in Lorain County includes a Court of Common Pleas - General Division, Domestic Relations Court, and Probate Court. The Lorain County Court of Common Pleas has general jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases. The criminal jurisdiction of this court includes all felony crimes as described by state statute and certain other criminal offenses. On the other hand, the county's Domestic Relations Court handles relating to divorce, legal separation, dissolution, child support, visitation, and child custody. The Lorain County Probate Court hears cases relating to adoptions, name changes, guardianships, and decedent estate administration
