Columbiana County
Columbiana County is located in the East Central area of Ohio. It was named in honor of Christopher Columbus and covers 535 square miles. It was formed on May 1, 1803 and is home to 101,877 people. The Columbiana County seat is located in Lisbon while its largest city is Salem.
The Courts of Common Pleas have original jurisdiction over felony cases and exclusive jurisdiction over mental health, probate, domestic relation, and juvenile cases in the county. The Columbiana Courts of Common Pleas have a juvenile Division that presides over juvenile traffic cases, paternity cases, and share jurisdiction over child custody and child support with the Domestic Relations Division.
Municipal Courts in Columbiana County hear cases pertaining to traffic and non-traffic misdemeanors, parking violations, and hold felony preliminary hearings. Civil cases heard by the municipal courts include temporary protection order, replevin, forcible entry and detainer, and contract cases. They have a small claims division adjudicating over civil cases in which the amount of money in dispute is $3,000 or less.
Mayors' Courts in Columbiana County share jurisdiction with County Courts over cases involving violations of municipal ordinances and driving under influence.
