The Family Courts deal with family-related matters such as adoption, family violence, juvenile delinquency, child support, and child custody. Decedent matters, including wills, adoptions, and administration of estates, are handled by the Surrogate's Court. The Town and Village Courts, also known as Justice Courts, hear misdemeanors, small claims (less than $3,000), traffic infractions, and ordinance violations.
