Genesee County
Genesee County was established in 1803 and is located in the western area of New York. It covers a total of 495 square miles and has a population of approximately 58,000 residents. The county's largest city, Batavia, serves as the government seat.
Genesee County's court system consists of the Supreme Court, County Court, Family Court, Surrogate's Court, and Town and Village Courts. The Supreme Court holds general jurisdiction and handles non-criminal matters exceeding $25,000 and cases where plaintiffs seek to enjoin/stop certain actions. Additionally, the Town and Village Courts handle cases involving small claims, city/town ordinance violations, landlord-tenant matters, and traffic offenses.
